2 arrested for beating man to death in Kwara

Two persons are cooling their heels in police net, following their arrest over alleged killing of one Usman Oroji.

The duo of Usman Jibril and Saheed Sabi reportedly beat the deceased to death with belt and stick at Kemaji in Kaiama, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

It was learnt that the case was reported at the Divisional Police headquarters, Kaiama that Usman Oroji was beaten to death by the suspects who are members of the WAI Corps during a festival in Kemaji.

It was further learnt that investigation into the matter led to the arrest of the suspects by the police.

“The members of WAI Corps physically assaulted the deceased in an attempt to collect cutlass from him just like they did to other Fulani men.

“The deceased was rushed to Tasude Hospital, Kaiama where he gave up the ghost while receiving treatment,” source further divulged.

Pilot Crime gathered that the case was later transferred to the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of Kwara Police headquarters for investigation.

“Investigation revealed that the suspects who were at a cultural festival held at Kemaji had the responsibility of collecting cutlasses from Fulani men in order to ensure security,” a police source disclosed.

He said the case is still under investigation, which will lead to arrest of other suspects who are at large.

When contacted, the State Spokesperson of Police Command on the development, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi said he is yet to be informed adding that he will confirm and get back to our reporter. As at the time of filling this report, he is yet to get back to this medium as promised.

In a related development, a middle aged man, Sheu Mohammed has recently been arrested for alleged murder of one Mohammed Majo by men of Kwara State Police Command.

The suspect, who is from Maje Fulani camp in Kaiama, Kaiama Local Government Area of the state, was said to have launched attack on Majo following an altercation.

According to a police source, the case was reported at the Divisional Police headquarters.

The source narrated that the suspect was relaxing in his compound when a fight broke out among some children who were earlier playing game.

Sheu was said to have intervened and settled the quarrel and ordered the warring parties to retire to their homes.

“The following day, Sheu was with his friends simply identified as Buka and Sheu of the same address when Majo and Namata Babuga both of the same address excused him.

“Majo accused the suspect of beating his younger brother, Buba Mohammed the previous day while playing with other children. This resulted in a shouting match, which led to fisticuff.

“In the process, the duo inflicted machete cuts on each other leading to the death of Majo who suffered more grievous injuries on his head,” he further said.

The police source further disclosed that after the arrest of the suspect, the case was transferred to the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of the state Police Command headquarters in Ilorin for investigation.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime, saying that he acted in self defence. Sheu said he retaliated as a result of provocation by the deceased, alleging that Majo launched the first attack,” the source added.
