Estate valuers seek local firms patronage by KWSG

Estate Surveyors and Valuers under the umbrella of Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), Kwara State branch has called on the state government to patronise local firms in order to boost economic activities in the state.

The state Chairman of NIESV, Surveyor Lanre Hassan made the call during an interview with Pilot Business last week Monday.

He said, “Our major challenge operating in Kwara here is that the state government is not patronising us.

“In fact most often they prefer to patronise the charlatans or the quacks that will value the properties for them at a lower rate but at the end of the day such properties don’t stand the test of time.

“We have in our profession the statutory job and non statutory jobs. In the statutory jobs, we are trying to bring the government to our confines but there is resistance.

“Look at the tenement rate, the law says you should value the property before collecting tax but the government is not acting in line with the law. As law abiding professionals, we don’t want to be confrontational, but this is posing a big challenge to our operations.”

Hassan however warned quacks to desist from parading themselves as estate surveyors and valuers, warning that if caught, they would be made to face wrath of the law.
