Kwara NDLEA uses one vehicle to run 7 commands in drug fight

By Ahmed Ajikobi
Kwara State Command of National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is faced with inadequate operational vehicles, which has affected the fight against drug abuse in the state, National Pilot can report.
According to a highly placed operative who craved anonymity as he is not authorized to speak to the media, there is only one functional vehicle available for seven commands in the state.
“The operational vehicle is being used by Offa, Omu-Aran, Jebba, Kaiama, Chikanda among other commands including the Command’s headquarters.
“These commands have to book ahead for the vehicle at the headquarters for operations,” the source revealed.
He lamented that the challenge has hindered effective busting of drugs crimes in the state.
He said several efforts to get more operational vehicles have been futile.
“Several moves have been made to get attention of the Federal Government on the issue to no avail.
“The Kwara State government too should help by providing necessary logistics as the command is doing its best to curb criminal activities in the state.
“With one vehicle, the command has recorded major feats but if the command has more crime will be reduced to minimal.
“Sometimes our committed officers use their vehicles for operations. We appeal to well meaning people in the state to help the Command in the fight against drug abuse.”
However, when contacted on the matter, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ekerette Edward declined comment.
