By Ahmed Ajikobi

The Council of Muslim Organisations on behalf of the Muslim stakeholders in the state has decried the recent series of criminal activities in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

They  made the condemnation yesterday in a statement  jointly signed by the Coordinator (Rtd) grand khadi, Sharia Court of Appeal, Justice Idrees Haroon and the Secretary, Imam Abdulrahman Habibullah Aduagba.

According to the statement, the emirate had experienced moral decadence such as kidnapping, ritual vices, cultism, hooliganism, corruption and related abnormalities.

They added that such vices are outrageous to the age long good name of Ilorin which its ancestors and prominent Muslim clerics had painstakingly laboured to achieve.

The organisation called on security agents as well as the judicial arm of government to be conscious of their roles in order to ensure peace and harmony in the emirate, the state and Nigeria at large.

“We urge our legislators to as a matter of urgency enact enabling laws against all the perpetrators of those mischievous acts, these in addition to community policing among various communities.

“We urge all places of worship to organise special prayers for divine peace, Unity, guidance harmonious co-existence and stable leadership.”

The CMO tasked the leaders in the society to address youth unemployment which it described as the cause of those illicit acts spreading in the society adding that any nation or community that to carry along the youth in its developmental programmes will attain development only as a mirage.

“Parents and places of learning should wake up to their responsibilities towards their wards; who are entrusted to them by God and upon which they will be subjected to questioning before Allah.”

The group however felicitated with Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Zulu Gambari and the entire Muslim Ummah in the state and nation on the forthcoming Eid-el- Kabir celebration just as it appealed for everyone to maintain high sense of decorum and decency at the praying ground.
