You can die in the ring, Wood warns Ferdinand

 

Rio Ferdinand has been warned he could “die” in the ring faced by former footballer and boxer Curtis Woodhouse.

Ferdinand has announced a new career in professional boxing – and is targeting a title within a year.

The ex-Manchester United and England footballer has linked up with former world champion Richie Woodhall as he looks to become a champion in the ring.

But Woodhouse warned on Twitter: “This is no joke; you can die ‘playing’ boxing.”

Woodhouse had a string of run-ins with law before claiming he had “fallen out of love” with football.

He turned to boxing aged 26 in 2006, which he claims had always been his favoured sport, and has gone on to win 23 of 30 fights.

In a separate video, the former Sheffield United and Birmingham midfielder added: “Don’t ever write a man off.
