Iwobi suffers muscle strain ahead Zambia clash

Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr has received bad news from London, with one of the strikers called up for the crucial World Cup qualifier against Zambia next Saturday struggling to get fit.

Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Arsenal winger Alex Iwobi suffered a quadriceps muscle strain injury few days before the Gunners faced West Brom, which ruled him out of the Premier League match.

Iwobi was not involved in Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon due to injury, and the Nigeria Football Federation had to call up Aaron Samuel in place of the Hale End Academy product.

And the same scenario may repeat itself if the former England U17 international is not declared fit by Arsenal medics in the coming days.

Alex Iwobi has played only 240 minutes for the Gunners first team in all competitions so far this season, from a possible 810 minutes.

Arsenal face BATE in the Europe League on Thursday, and it remains to be seen if the Super Eagle will be in their traveling party to Barysaw.
