Kwara 2019: I may still run for guber race – Omotosho

Former gubernatorial candidate of Labour Party in the 2015 election, Dr Mike Omotosho has hinted that he might still consider contesting the race in next year governorship election in the state under the party even as he said nothing is impossible yet.
Omotosho is presently involved in the battle for recognition of who is the authentic chairman of Labour Party between him and Alhaji AbdulKakdir Abdulsalam by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He spoke at the party’s secretariat on Monday during an enlarged state executive committee meeting of the Kwara State chapter held in Ilorin.
The former President of Rotary club Nigeria said there have been increased calls from people for him to consider re-contesting the governorship seat adding that “I am still looking at it”.
According to him, he might decide to take a leave of absence as the national chairman of the party to actualise his gubernatorial ambition if need be.
Popularly known as ‘Omo to sure’ within the political environment in the state, the former Labour Party candidate further noted that credible people should be encouraged to come into the race for the state to continue to make progress.
“People have asked me if I will be coming back to run for governorship of Kwara state and I said it’s not impossible, …I am still looking at it and as national chairman, I can take a leave of absence to do that.
“But for now, let’s ensure we encourage credible people to come in, my responsibility as the national chairman of the party is to ensure that people who have integrity and credibility and who will abide by the ideals of the Labour party, we will ensure we work with them to win such positions and then we will now work with an agenda of family security, family education, family health and family finances which are all our focus in Labour Party”, he added
He debunked insinuations that he was being sponsored by some political bigwigs to destabilise the party but noted that LP may go into coalition with other parties that have the ideals of the party of providing equal opportunity and social justice for everybody is protected.
He maintained that he remained the authentic chairman of the party and called on INEC to do the needful by removing the name of Alhaji Abdulkadir Abdulsalam from its website not further create confusion.
“We don’t have the ambition of adopting President Buhari as our presidential candidate, however, it is not impossible and when we are going to do that, we will consult with everybody”, he added
