KWSG charges corporate bodies on sports devt

 

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has called on individuals and corporate bodies to key into sporting sector towards complimenting government’s effort in the sector.

Ahmed represented by his Senior Special Assistant Government House, Alhaji Ibrahim Adeyemi, made the call on Saturday while receiving  Cyclists and officials that participated at the Cycling race tagged “keeping fit for a better Nigeria”  as part of activities marking the fifty eighth birthday of a Labour Activist, Comrade Issa Aremu.

He reaffirmed the commitment of his government to the development of the sector, adding that the task of moving it forward should be a collaborative one, hence the need for necessary key stakeholders to venture into the sporting sector.

The governor, who stressed the need for all the people of the State to always embark on regular exercise to keep their body fit, thanked the foremost labour leader for his doggedness and commitment to the labour activities and sports sector.

Ahmed congratulated Comrade Issa Aremu on his birthday and for embarking on such sporting activities to celebrate his day, adding that the state government is looking forward to celebrate him on more greater height.

Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Sports, Pharmacist Kale Ayo, said the state government had created enabling environment for sporting activities in the state, making the people of the state to exercise their bodies on daily activities.

Pharmacist Ayo thanked the celebrant for his humanitarian service and for adding values to the sporting activities to make people fit and healthy.

In his message, a Cyclist and Olojoku of Ojoku, Oba AbdulRasaq Adegboyega Afolabi, appreciated the roles Comrade Issa Aremu is playing in the society especially in the area of giving back to the society.

The Director of Sports, Kwara State, Coach Tunde Kazeem, said the celebrant had decided to turn the yearly activities to a championship to encourage athletes.

In his response, the celebrant, Comrade Issa Aremu  appreciated Governor Ahmed who he referred to as a cyclist for according them warmth reception and for his interest in the sporting section.

Comrade Aremu noted that the exercise was dedicated to the late Director of Legal Sevice, University of Ilorin, Barrister Dare Akanbi who died recently and Alhaji Obalowu Keke who is also a cyclist but had an accident two years ago.

Our Staff Correspondent reports that the exercise started at the entrance of the Kwara State Stadium, while the Cyclists passed through Taiwo, Unity, Challenge, Ahmadu Bello way, Umar Audi road, Offa road, Post Office and back to the Stadium.
