2018 Budget: Group network calls for speedy passage

A group,  Network of Civil Society Stakeholders for Development Programmes (CSD-NET) has called for the speedy passage of the 2018 appropriation bill by the National Assembly.

CSD-NET,  is a coalition of Civil Society Organisation (CSO), Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and the Community Based Organisations (CBOs).

ThePresident and  National Coordinator ,Alhaji Abdullahi Tajudeen, made the call at the inauguration of the group network in Ilorin, Kwara State on Monday.

He expressed concern on low budget implementation in the country, which he attributed to delayed passage of appropriation bill at the National Assembly.

The national coordinator of the group therefore appealed to the legislative arm of government to ensure speedy passage  of the budget for quick implementation by the executive.

Tajudeen, however, explained that the network was formed to partner governments at all levels to ensure that projects meant for the people are well implemented.

According to him, the group is not out to antagonise governments, but to partner them towards ensuring good governance through implementation of projects to specification.

He disclosed that the group has identified some projects at the national, which it intends to monitor, adding that the data are being collated on the 17 agenda policies of the Federal Government.

Earlier in her speech, the state coordinator, Toni Adeleke said  the network was established  with the aim of monitoring and tracking projects under Social Development Goals (SDGs).

She noted  that the group would ensure that  all the projects listed for implementation under the SDGs are properly implemented and  fully accounted for, in order for the citizens to benefit from the projects being implemented for them.

While decrying the poor implementation of projects under the Millennium Development Goals, Adeleke said the network would see to the proper execution of SDGs.

In her remarks, the Public Relations Officer of the network, Dr. Saudat Abdulbaki, said the organisation came into being due to the growing suspicion of foreign funding agencies of corrupt practices against NGOs.

She, however, assured that the group network in the state would live up to its billings by justifying the confidence reposed in it,

Abdulbaki added that the lofty ideas of the national body of the network would be well domesticated towards alleviating poverty among the populace in the state.
