The Kwara State government will inject about N500m into poultry farming in the state, Pilot Business has learnt.
The state Chairman, Poultry Association of Nigeria, Mr. Oladapo Robinson made this known during an interview with this medium in Ilorin, recently.
He disclosed that the fund will be in form of credit facilities to farmers
“About three months ago, Kwara State government declared that farmers in the state will be given a loan worth N500m to boost poultry production in the state. We have since then been working with the state Ministry of Agric to process the loan for our members.
“We have applied for the loan, we have submitted our forms to the Ministry of Agric and I think it will be forwarded to the Central Bank for onward processing.”
He, however, lauded the state government for the tax rebate for poultry farmers in the state.
“Our members were given a concession to pay a minimum of N5, 000 in taxes per annum as our association negotiated with the state government on tax rebate to our members in the state,” he further said.
Speaking on the proposed school feeding by the state government slated to start in September, Robinson said the stakeholders met sometimes last year to discuss this issue, but our union has not been given the contract till now. He noted that Kwara has a comparative advantage in poultry production as the gateway to the north and  southern part of the country.
“We have good climate, we have  the temperature, we have the land and the market is equally good as Kwara is in the third position in production capacity after Ogun, and Oyo States”.
Robinson said poultry Association of Nigeria in Kwara State is expanding its coast as nearly all the 16 local government areas of the state have been captured.
He acknowledged the contribution of the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutai Gbadamosi who he said is also a registered member of Poultry Association of Nigeria, to poultry farming development in the state.
