Barcelona charged by UEFA

Barcelona has been charged by UEFA in relation to incidents during their victorious outing against Italian opposition Roma last Wednesday in a UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg game at Camp Nou.

Barcelona overcame the Serie A side 4-1 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final fixture but the night ended on a sour note as objects were thrown onto the pitch by the home crowd.

Before 20 minutes had been played, Barca fans launched yellow balloons from their seats that ended up on the pitch and the referee was forced to halt the game. It is understood the act was a sign of home fans’ support for the Catalan government members who remain in prison.

UEFA claim their disciplinary regulations have been broken by incidents at the Camp Nou and the organisation’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body will meet on 31 May to determine a punishment, according to Football-Espana.

The case will be heard by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on May 31, the same day as their enquiry into the trouble before Liverpool’s clash with Manchester City.

The La Liga giants travel to Rome on Tuesday for the second leg of their tie, in which they are in full command.
