The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) has distanced itself from the crisis rocking the Kwara State University, (KWASU) Malete.

Dr Isa Abdulraheem had while speaking with journalists as ASUU Chairman, KWASU chapter, Malete asserted that the current crisis in the institution was not unexpected as it was according to him, resultant from the failure of the state government to heed to  the warning  that came courtesy of his exco.

He went further to  suggest that  a meeting of the stakeholders should be convened by the Transition Implementation Committee set up by the incoming administration in the state to find a way of resolving the crisis.

Crisis engulfed the institution following the appointment of Prof. Kenneth Adeyemi as the acting Vice-Chancellor, a few days ago.

The step taken by Dr Abdulraheem, has once again brought to the fore the lingering crisis existing in the KWASU chapter of ASUU.

Two factions of ASUU have existed in the institution since December 2015; the Dr Abdulraheem-led faction and the Dr Daud Adesola-led ASUU.

While the university management under the former Vice Chancellor, Prof. AbdulRasheed Na’Allah recognises the faction led by the former, the national body of the union interacts and recognises only the Daud-led ASUU.

However, barely a day after  issuing a statement stating the position of ASUU  in respect of the crisis, the zonal office of the union in a statement made available to newsmen by  the Coordinator, Dr Ade Adejumo , on behalf of the national headquarters,  though noted  that the body would not want to be involved in the ongoing  intrigues and dramas but submitted that it has become necessary  to   distance itself from the said statement as the author is according to him,  unknown to the union.

“The attention of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Ibadan zone, has been drawn to a mischievous, highly hypocritical press statement in the name of ASUU by one Dr. Issa Abdulraheem.  In the said statement, Dr Issa criticised the state government for sacking the former Vice Chancellor of the Kwara State University, Prof, Abdulrasheed Na’Allah and the subsequent appointment of Prof. Kenneth Adeyemi as  Acting Vice- Chancellor.  While ASUU Ibadan zone, comprising of the Universities of Ibadan and Ilorin, Osun State University, Ladoke Akintola University and the Kwara State University, Malete, is unwilling to be dragged into the tirade of succession going on in KWASU and in Kwara State, the union is concerned about the statement made by  an unrecognised person, Dr. Issa Abdulraheem’ he said.  Asserting that Dr Daud Adesola -led exco is the faction recognized by the national body of the  union , Dr. Issa Abdulraheem, was further described as  an impostor, a hireling and a crony  allegedly used by Na’Allah to frustrate ASUU activities in the university.  The union also accused Na’Allah of  working in connivance with Dr Isa  to operate an illegal bank account in the name of ASUU through which illegal and dirty businesses were allegedly carried out . The former VC was also accused of  deducting check off dues  and having it remitted to the said illegal bank account operated by Dr Isa.  The union, however, described the present development as a case of the chickens coming home to roost alleging that the state government had in the past provided cover for the former Vice Chancellor.
