KWHA Plenary Proceedings for Thursday, 1 August, 2019 

 

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon Yakubu Danladi Salihu presided. Opening prayer was said by the Rt Hon Speaker.
The Speaker examined and approved the Plenary Votes and Proceedings for Wednesday, 31st July, 2019
Motion on Notice
A Motion on the ‘Need to Enforce Compliance with the Environmental Sanitation Law in the State’ was moved by Hon. Owolabi Olatunde Rasaq, member representing Share/Oke-Ode.
Relating the experience he had during the last environmental sanitation day, Hon. Owolabi said despite the existence of a law backing the activity in the state, the people do not comply as they were seen going about their normal daily activities. This he said was despite the benefits of the exercise.
Hon. Mohammed Baba Salihu (Okuta/YashIkira), co-sponsor of the motion, said traditional rulers and education institutions should also be involved in the sensitization and enforcement of the Sanitation Law.
He said there should also be synergy between the Local and State Governments so that the rural areas will be covered during the sanitation exercise.
Other Honourable members who spoke on the motion are; Hon. Aliyu Wahab Opakunle (Afon), Hon. Ganiyu Folabi Salahu (Omupo), Hon. Awodiji Omotayo Felix (Irepodun), Hon. Awolola Olumide Ayokunle (Isin), Hon. Ahmed Baba Saidu (Bani/Adena), Hon. Bello John Olarewaju (Lanwa/Ejidongari), Hon Ambali Olatunji Ibrahim (Owode/ Onire, Hon. Abolarin Ganiyu Gabriel (Ekiti), Hon. Babatunde Abdulkareem Paku (Ipaye/ Malete/Olooru).Hon. Saheed Adekeye L. Popoola (Ojomu/ Balogun), Hon Abdullahi Halidu Danbaba (Kaiama/ Kemanji/Wajibe).
Speaking on the Motion, the Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly commended Hon. Owolabi for leading by example and being a good ambassador of the Legislature.
He, however, enjoined Hon. Members to ensure that they  participate in the monthly Environmental Sanitation exercise in their respective constituencies.
Resolution on Motion
*The Hon House called on the political elites in the state to lead by example by physically participating in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise henceforth.
*The Hon House urged faith based organisations, civil society groups and various associations of artisans to mobilise their members in their numbers to henceforth observe the monthly Environmental Sanitation exercise in the State.
*The Hon House also urged the State Government to direct the Ministry of Information and Communication to intensify radio jingles in order to create more awareness on the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.
Motion for Adjournments
Motion for adjournment was moved by the House Leader Hon. Magaji Abubakar Olawoyin and seconded by Hon Babatunde AbdulKareem Paku.
