Posthumous award for Abdulkareem, 7 other Alore indigenes

The Alore Central Development Association (ACDA), Ogidi ward in Ilorin West Local Government Area on Tuesday posthumously honoured late Alhaji AbdulKareem Muhammad Awwal Elesin.
The posthumous recognition for late Abdulkareem of Alagbo Compound, Alore, Ilorin, was for his contribution towards the development of the community, according to the organisers.
Late Abdulkareem is the father of Head of the Political Desk of National Pilot newspaper, Mumini Abdulkareem.
In his speech, the Chairman of ACDA, Mr Toyin Sidiq Kayode noted that the award ceremony was to show appreciation to late Abdulkareem and other indigenes of the community who have made their marks by contributing to the social-cultural, religious and educational development of the area.
According to him, their exploits will serve as lessons for others piloting the affairs of any society to emulate their good deeds and selfless service towards their community and humanity at large.
He said although the event has been an annual one, ACDA thought it wise to incorporate an endowment to cater for the education of the less privileged in the community with a target of over 20 students in primary, secondary and tertiary level. He called on the people to rally round it for the education of the children to curb the menace of hooliganism and cultism that is ravaging the Ilorin community.
In his sermon, the Chief Missioner of Alore Central Mosque, Imam Shafihi Abubakar called on the people to serve Almighty Allah (SWT) by rendering assistance to ACDA in his quest to impact knowledge on the children.
In their reaction, children of the honouree, Mr Shehu AbdulKareem and Hajia Afusat Nurudeen described their late father as a generous man loved by his community adding that he prioritised the welfare and wellbeing of his children and that of other members of the society.
Late Abdulkareem died in his 60s on June 7th, 1989 after a short trip to Benin City to check on his family.
Other illustrious indigenes of the community recognised alongside late AbdulKareem included Sheikh Salman Akanji of Ile Agoro compound and Alhaja Sidikat Usman of Arekenna compound.
The list also included Alhaji Ahmad Olohutoyin of Onikeke compound, Alhaji Hanafi Ameen Lowo-Ori of Alafara compound, Alhaji Muhammad Raji Ayinla of Alaro compound, Alhaji Abdulrauf Adedoyin of Orimaro compound and Alhaji Badmus Baba-Nageri of Olorunoje compound, all deceased of Alore community.
At the event were the Chairman House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon AbdulGafar Ayilara, Deputy Director Ministry of Education, Alhaji Ibrahim Ajao, Head of Department, Industrial Chemistry, University of Ilorin, Prof Baba Abdullahi Alafara among others.
