An Ilorin Revenue Court has discharged and acquitted an ex-student of
the Kwara State University (KWASU), Saubana Adebara of the allegation
of defamation of character leveled against him by a dismissed staff of
the institution, Rashidat Kolawole.
The judgment was delivered by Chief Magistrate Jibril Ziki last Thursday.
The claimant, Kolawole was said to have sued the defendant claiming
that he defamed her person.
The defendant, it was gathered, hiked the school portal through the
assistant of the claimant to carry out fraudulent activities.
They were both in the act of collecting money from students to
manipulate their results.
With the help of his accomplice, the defendant was said to have
manipulated results of no fewer than four students including that of
Aishat AbdulRasaq.
Also, Adebara was said to have confessed and indicted the claimant
while being interrogated by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence
Corps (NSCDC) after they were caught and arrested over the act.
The disciplinary committee set up by the school to investigate the
development was said to have dismissed Kolawole after she was found
guilty.
The development eventually made her file a case against Adebara,
accusing him of defaming her character by indicting her in the matter.
Counsel to the claimant, Debo Adeyemo, gave evidence but called no witness.
The defendant counsel, Tunde Abdul Gegele called three witnesses one
from the NSCDC, KWASU and member of his clients family, one Segun
Adebara.
