The Rotary club of Ilorin, District 9125 has donated wheelchairs,
sewing machines, hair dryers worth millions of naira to the less
privileged in order to alleviate their sufferings.
Speaking on Saturday, at Kwara Hotel, Ilorin, during the Investiture
of the 16th President of the club, Rotarian Akeem Abidemi Okunola,
said, “Already, we have been doing lots of humanitarian projects
across the state and beyond.
“We have donated nine boreholes to nine different communities in
Kwara. We also have blood bank at Olanrewaju hospital and medical
equipment at ECWA hospital, Idofian, among other projects.
“Today, we have given wheelchairs to the physically impaired as well
as sewing machines to fashion designers and dryers to the
hairdressers. So, this is what we do and we want to continue to assist
the needy in the society.”
He however advised the beneficiaries of items not sell them but use
judiciously to better their lives even as he called for support from
fellow Rotarians through contributions in executing projects.
“Rotary is simply humanity, so I trust them (my colleagues) as they do
support me and they will continue to do so. The only advice is that we
should continue to be our brother’s keeper.”
The highlight of the programme was the award bestowed on some
prominent personalities in the society.
