NGO tasks govt on better working environment

The Nigerian Workers Strategy and Enlightenment Centre (NIWOSEC) has advocated decent work environment for Nigerian Workers in order to boost their productivity as well as contribute to national development.The Lead Strategist of NIWOSEC, Dr. David Kayode Ehindero made the disclosure during an event organised at NUJ Press Centre, Ilorin to mark World  Day for Decent Work and launch quarterly magazine of the NGO on Monday.
Ehindero described the theme: ‘Invest in care’ as apt in view of healthcare and welfare package for the working class in Nigeria, noting that many Nigerians are working under harsh conditions.
He lamented that there are no adequate facilities and personnel at government-owned hospitals to provide qualitative healthcare to patients and accident victims.
The NIWOSEC boss noted that workers cannot be productive when demoralised and traumatised by inhumane work conditions.
While speaking on the motive behind The Workplace Magazine, Ehindero hinted that the publication would raise national discourse on issues affecting workers and set agenda for government, organised labour organisations and other stakeholders.
In his address, NUJ Kwara Council Chairman, Mallam Umar Abdulwahab appreciated NIWOSEC for coming up with the specialised magazine while adding that stakeholders must see the issue of workers’ welfare beyond the minimum wage.
In her remarks, the Acting Editor, of National Pilot Newspaper, Mrs. Joke Adeniyi-Jackson described the magazine as educative and informative.
She stressed that casualisation  is becoming the order of the day both in public and private sector, noting that the magazine will set agenda to stakeholders on how to address most of the challenges confronting workers in the country.
