Heineken promises exciting moment at Lagos open

 

With its commitment to quality, consistency and effective brand messaging, Heineken Beer, which has joined the consortium of partners of the annual Lagos Open Tennis Championship, has promised excitement moments for fans as the 19th edition of the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
The Senor Brand Manager, Heineken, Mr. Mfom Bassey said at the press conference to herald the Lagos Open Tennis which holds at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos on Thursday that the brand known for its quality and general acceptability would pull its strength and weight behind the Lagos Open as it has done to other sports competitions such as the UEFA Champions League, F1 and others, even just as he promised that Heineken will add values to the tournament, which will feature emerging tennis players from no fewer than 57 countries of the world.
Other sponsors of the competition include Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, LASACO, Julius Berger, KIA Motors, Qatar Airlines and Uber.
Speaking through the Prince Wale Oladunjoye, Tournament Director of the Lagos Open Tennis, the most enduring legacy in sports left behind by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu after he left office in 2007, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Chief Pius Akinyelure said that all is now set for the tournament, which has been holding in since year 2000 to celebrate the sitting Executive Governor of Lagos State. This year will be the first in the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Chief Akinyelure revealed that the ITF has redefined the nomenclature of its Futures Tournament to reflect the prize money.
“Lagos Open is in the highest category and is now known as an M25 +H and W25 Tournaments for the men and women categories respectively. So this year, we have two M25 and W25 Tournaments for both Men and Women, the first from 7-13 October, while the second holds from 14-20 October, 2019, the total prize money therefore remains $100,000. All qualified players in the Main Draws get a share of this prize money,” said Akinyelure.


…Nigerian hopeful crash out of Lagos open

Nigeria’s campaign at the ongoing Lagos Open tennis championship Future 3 at the Lagos Lawn Tennis court came to an end last night following the elimination of Joseph Imeh, Emmanuel Idoko, Blessing Samuel and Quadre Barakat Oyinlomo in their respective matches.
In less than 15 minutes, Nigerian Joseph Imeh retired in his match against number 7 seed Garanganga, Takanyi from Zimbabwe and the match ended 3-0 while on Court 1, top seed in men’s singles Tunisia’s Mansouri Skander beat Nigerian Idoko 7-5, 6-4 in the game that lasted 1h 15min.
Blessing Samuel was humbled by Samir Sandra of India in 6-0,6-0 game to complete the losing streak of Nigerian players in the annual tournament.
In other results, Number 4 seed Pichler David from Austria beat American Bushamuka William in straight set of 6-1,6-0 on Court 7 in a match that lasted 51min just as Goveas Aryan, Number 8 seed defeated Cheruiyot Kevin from Kenya 6 -3, 6-2 in 1h 11mins on Court 5.
Heineken, the International premium lager beer is the main sponsor of the event this year.
