The Kwara State House of Assembly yesterday mandated its Committee on
Education and Human Capital Development to investigate the
dilapidation of physical infrastructure and shortage of teachers in
rural schools in the state.
This was sequel to a Matter of General Public Importance raised at
plenary by a member representing Omupo Constituency, Hon AbdulGaniyu
Salaudeen.
Hon Salaudeen in his submission urged the state government to work out
modalities towards reviving rural schools in the state.
He also prayed the House to direct the State Universal Basic Education
Board (SUBEB) to order the Local Government Education Authority (LGEA)
secretaries to revert back to the last posting of teachers for the
benefit of the students in rural schools.
In his comment, the Speaker, Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu noted that the
matter of poor state of rural schools and inadequate teachers is
affecting most Local Governments in the state and called for pragmatic
approach to reverse the trend.
Other members who spoke on the matter expressed deep concern over the
poor state of rural schools and dearth of teachers which they
described as worrisome.
They advocated synergy between the executive and legislative arms of
government towards education development in the state.
