By Ahmed Ajikobi

The Kwara State Police Command has denied that an ‘officer’ notorious
for manhandling and extortion of residents of Tanke area, Ilorin, the
Kwara State capital being one of its officers.
When asked on his reaction to a widely circulated video on the social
media at the weekend, where an unidentified ‘officer’ and his cohort
were maltreating a young man simply identified as Usman at Oke-Odo
area, Tanke, Ilorin, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state,
DSP Ajayi Okasanmi in a text message sent to our reporter last night,
said the subject in the video is non-member of the Kwara State Police
Command.
His text message reads thus; “The subject in the video is not a
policeman from Kwara Command.
“We are still investigating the video and our findings will be made
public as soon as we have information on it,” Okasanmi stated.
In the 60 secs video which dominated social media space on Friday, a
flabby officer on  black jacket and punk haircut with a gun hanged on
his neck was noticed manhandling a young man (Usman) threatening that;
“I swear, you will die.”
Usman was noticed lying on his back trying to resist arrest, wailing
and saying, “please sir, please sir.”  One of his legs (right) was
already handcuffed and the second was about to be joined by the two
officers despite plea from Usman and the crowd.
Some of the eyewitnesses were heard telling the maltreated young man
to stand up and follow the ‘officers’ to avoid further punishment.
Meanwhile, most of the social media users have condemned the act
calling on the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to launch an
investigation into the matter.
They wonder what crime may have warranted such ill treatment meted on
the young man.
