A ward chairman of the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Umaru Kotosi on Sunday lost his life in a fatal auto crash that occured along Kosubosu – Okuta road.
He was returning from a Kwara North Senatorial Empowerment program held at Kosubosu, earlier in the day when the incident occurred.
His remains would be buried today (Monday) in his home town, Gwanara according to Islamic rites, a statement personally signed by the Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Engr. Salihu Yakubu Danladi said.
The white Toyota Previa space wagon he was travelling in reportedly skidded off the road and somersaulted several times into the bush. The cause of the accident was not clear last night during the filling of this report.
Several other occupants of the vehicle also sustained varying degre of injuries.
Until his death, the deceased was the APC ward chairman of Gwanara in Baruten Local Government of Kwara state, same constituency with the Speaker.
In the statement, Danladi described the late Kotosi as a loyal, committed and dedicated party man, who laboured hard for the liberation of Kwara state and doing his best to support the present government in delivering on its electoral promises.
“I am saddened with the news of the demise of the party Chairman of my ward, Gwanara. It is a personal and great loss to me. Alhaji Kotosi is more than a loyal party man, but a patriotic Kwaran who lived and ended his life promoting party cohesion and pursuing the cause of a better Kwara that works for all.
“As tragic as this appeared to me, the people of Gwanara Emirate, Baruten local government and Kwara state APC family, we are taking solace in the fact that Allah is the ultimate giver and taker of life and the believe that He took his life at his destined and best time”, Danladi said.
He added that “We pray for repose of his soul and fortitude for us all to bear the loss. We also pray others who sustained injuries in the accident that claimed our brother’s life recover quickly”.
