Eye care: Group organises free surgeries for 500 in Ilorin

In its fight against eye problems in Nigeria, Ilorin Platinum Friends Club has organised free surgeries and provision of free glasses for affected people in Ilorin.
The event which was held yesterday at the Old Iqra Primary School, Western Reservoir (Olorunshogo) road, witnessed a large turnout including the young and old.
At the programme, 500 eyes glasses were given to patients while eye surgical operation go to some beneficiaries for the eye surgical operation for those with cataract problem.
The Governor General of the club, Alhaji Yusuf Abdulwahab in an interview with National Pilot said the service was organised by the friends of the liked mind who realised that God has benefitted them in their lives and decided to help the less privilege in the society.
Abdulwahab further noted that the programme is not political one adding ‘the club decided to set up a week eye care programme to people of our neighbourhood to show appreciation to God. Five hundred glasses were giving out, also we conducted surgical operation for those with cataract.
‘This is not the first time of doing this. We have organised a programme where we give food for the widows, support student in secondary and tertiary institutions with scholarship among others.
Speaking with one of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Kazeem Owoyale, he thanked the organizers for wonderful programme adding that eye is the king of the body.
“I heard about the programme on radio stations and I came, no money was collected from us. I have been attended to and asked to come on Wednesday for my glasses. I have been given my eye glasses for free. May Allah support them and be with their family too including the doctors attending to us.”
Speaking with head of the team of doctors, Khadija olanipekun Lawal said they were invited by the organizers to carry out an outreach to the member of public. She further said 500 patients benefited in the exercise and 500 eye glasses has been distributed.
She appealed to government to aid the eye section in the hospital by equipping them with tools to carry out proper eye care.
