Garlands for man of his people

There is a popular saying that it’s good to be blessed.  It’s better to be a blessing. This perhaps has been the propelling force on which Alhaji Alabi Amuda, hinged his philanthropy, which was recently recognised by people of his community.
The former permanent secretary in Kwarans State was among prominent personalities who were last Sunday honoured by the Sarkin Gambari Descendants Youth Forum.
The awards were given to the recipients on the occasion of the 13th coronation anniversary of the Sarki Gambari of Ilorin, Alhaji Yahaya Hammed Sarki held at his palace in Ilorin.
Over the years, Amuda has demonstrated ability to meet with the needs and demands of the people that he encountered. His kinsmen particularly youths have been the major beneficiaries of his kind gesture. As a visionary community leader, his humanitarian gestures have enduring impacts.  As one who believes in the axiom that rather than give fish, people should be taught how to fish, he made youth empowerment his priority, which accounted for the large number of people he secured paid job for in the civil service while he served in various capacities before his retirement last year.
The basis for his award cannot be divorced from his compassion, pragmatism, quality leadership, patience, vision, devotion and a willingness to sacrifice for his people.
Unlike political holders and politicians who fizzle out of memories of their kinsmen as soon as they vacated office because they made no positive impact in their lives, the former permanent secretary was deemed worthy of honour for serving them meritoriously in and outside public office and making the community proud going by his untainted record in civil service.
His community achievements in human development capacity and philanthropy, which has better standard of living of his kinsmen is incontrovertibly worthy of reward.
He was described as a man of the people, who contribute immensely towards uplifting the welfare of the people of Gambari, especially in the area of community development.
Little wonder speakers after speakers at the colourful event glowing extolled the virtues of Amuda, whom they said shows unalloyed love to his people and has assisted a lot of our sons and daughters of Gambari community and by extension Ilorin Indigenes. In addition, his good nature and leadership qualities, according to his kinsmen have endeared him to many people, especially his innate humility that has created a harmonious relationship among the people of Gambari. He was said to have been able to achieve all he did due to his steadfastness, thoroughness and for being straight forward. No doubt, his good conduct, humility and hard work has given the people of Gambari the pride of place.
Like the saying that the great use of life is to spend it for something that outlasts it, Alabi has imprinted his footmark in the sand of time through his good works, and reaping the reward. He planted flowers in others’ gardens and his life has thus become a bouquet.
This is instructive to all people in positions of authourity today, because the people you meet on your way up are those your path will cross again on your way down. They have to be mindful of the fact that they have a life and one chance to make it count by trying to make a difference.  Therefore, live today the way you want to be remembered tomorrow.
