Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) has been identified as the bedrock for technological development of any society.

Elelu stated that “no society can achieve meaningful progress without encouraging its youths to acquire necessary practical skills.”

He noted that SIWES is one of the major avenues for bridging the gap between the theoretical knowledge being taught in school and industrial practice outside school.

The Rector advised the students to pay attention to the primary objective of the scheme and be good ambassadors of the Polytechnic at all times.

Also speaking, the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) Area Manager, Ilorin Area Office, Ogbonna Simon who was represented by Salmonu Akeem Gbolagade said the scheme is designed to expose students to work methods and techniques in handling equipment and machinery that may not be available at the institution.

Ogbonna urged the Polytechnic to ensure regular supervision of the students while on attachment.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Director, Industrial Liaison and Placement Unit of the polytechnic, Engr. A. A. Yusuf disclosed that “the era of job seeking is becoming old fashioned, thus, students must prepare themselves for life after graduation.”
