I’ll run open door policy, says new Kwara Director of Sports

The new acting Director of Sports, Kwara State Sports Council, Mall. Ibrahim Alarape Atanda has said that his door is widely open for constructive criticism as he pledges to midwife the Sports Council on the premise of open door policy.
He stated this yesterday during the official handing over of the council’s property to him by the erstwhile Director of Sport, Coach Tunde Kazeem which held in his office.
Recall that Honorable Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development Mrs. Joana Nnazua Kolo presented the letter of appointment to Alarape who has since assumed office.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after he was handed the baton of the council, Alarape said he is going to run an all-inclusive administration.
“Everyone that wants to succeed should run an open door policy. Listening to a one-sided view and jump into conclusion is not appropriate for a good leader. Rather one should endeavour to take samples of opinion and come out with a holistic approach.
“I’m going to listen to the opinion of all and sundry and together we will move the Kwara State Sports Council forward. People should not hesitate to call me with their meaningful suggestions that would move the council forward, and I will be obliging to their suggestions,” he said.
Alarape added that he feel fulfilled and happy having served the state and the Sport Council in sundry capacity since 1978 as an athlete and as a coach.
“Am happy today because I have been part and parcel of the sport council all this while. I have been an athlete representing the state since 1978 and I together with the out gone Director of Sport had been together all along.’
“For him handling over to me today, it is an avenue to contribute my own quota in earnest. I have been doing it as a coach and as an athlete. I have been a management staff of the council for the past 7 years now and I have been doing my best as head of coaching.
“For me to succeed, all of us must work assiduously including my department. I just hope that as I cooperated with Coach Tunde Kazeem, others too will do same for me to be successful,” he concluded.
In his own view, the former Director of Sports, Coach Tunde Kazeem describes Alarape as a virtuous person.
“I am very proud of you and I pledge to continue to render my utmost support for you. I pray that your tenure will witness a lot of successes. Anytime just call on me. On behalf of the Sports Council, I handed over the council’s property to you,” Kazeem said.
Until his appointment, Alarape was the Head of Coaching, Training and Research at the Kwara State Sports Council.
He was former Head of School Sports and Local Government Affairs and he was appointed as Acting Head of Coaching, Training and Research in 2017. For the past three years, he has been acting as the Director of Sports whenever the erstwhile Director of Sports is out of town.
Alarape, a former athlete, represented the state in various squash tournaments as a player, before graduating to become a coach in the sport. He was Head of the state’s squash team for many years, winning laurels in both national and international competitions.
