We’ll partner Bill Gates, Dangote, BUA, others to develop Moro – Alaka

A frontline candidate in the forthcoming Local Government election in Moro of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon Moshood Alaka on Saturday hosted party leaders and politicians from his constituency to a get-together to celebrate with them in the spirit of the Eid-ul-Adha celebration. In this interview with Acting Editor, Mumini AbdulKareem, at the sideline of the event, the politician cum fish merchant speaks on sundry issue regarding his ambition and plans for the council if eventfully elected. Excerpts:
What informed your decision to host your constituent today?
You can see a lot of people are here and this is the day after the Sallah celebration. It has been my tradition to always host our people at the local governments and ward levels to thank them for their unflinching support before, during and by God’s grace after this election. The last time immediately after Ramadan during the Eid-ul-Fitr, we also called all the local government executives including ward chairmen and stakeholders from each ward to celebrate the occasion with them. But you know this is the big Eid and we have to make it big also by gathering the youth leaders from the ward, secretaries and coordinators of AA group from each ward including two persons each from all the women associations and my constituency in the spirit of the season to thank almighty Allah for all His goodness upon us.
Why are you doing this now, some of your critics might describe it as politics taking advantage of the period.
As one of the frontline aspirant in the coming Local Government Election from Moro, I have reached out to virtually all the wards in my local government to meet all the stakeholders and to understand their problems firsthand at the grassroots. Why we are doing this now is to know prior our election where the shoe pinches most and how to help them solve it, this is beyond politics but about the genuineness and willingness of our commitment to serve the people with uncommon passion and determination to improve on our council for the overall benefit of the people. I have gone to sixteen of the seventeen wards in my constituency and we are almost done with plans to visit the last ward in Moro because we want to see things for ourselves and know how to tackle it when the time comes. A day before this Sallah, I gave cow to the local government executives and ward chairmen for their celebration which we did in compliance with the Covid-19 protocol by inviting our people here to felicitate with them. We are all stakeholders in this project and will salvage our council together.
What is your call to your supporters and are you confident of their support till the end of the journey?
Very well! They are my most cherished asset and they have demonstrated that they want me to come and lead them in the council by voting for our candidature for us to be able to implement our robust plans for them when we get there by the grace of Almighty Allah. That is the impetus that has galvanised us and still the propelling force that is keeping us on. Our people have signified that they want me to partner and continue to support the Governor of the state, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq who has been involved in many projects across the state and my people want such to be extended to them in Moro. We are going to vigorously pursue that partnership we get there by Allah’s grace. We are very much ready for this project to develop Moro with ideas, capacity and connections to take them to the promise land. They know what we have before we get there and understand what we are capable of doing by the time we get there. We have to inject know ideas into local government administration in Kwara State. The era of Local Government only existing to pay salaries is no more trendy in world politics and Moro should not be different because the councils represent the grassroots and closest to the people in terms of governance and execution of government policies. We are very much aware of our mandate and we shall strive, with the support of the people and Almighty Allah no to disappoint them on every aspect of our blueprint which is going to be another chapter in the administration of Local Government in Kwara State.
You have repeatedly referred to your people in this conversation, what do you really have in mind for them if elected?
I have a lot of things in mind by the time we get there. We are going to partner and reach out to numerous federal government agencies and bodies to develop Moro and in addition to that, internationally recognised foundations like Bill Gate, Dangote and BUA will not be left out to bring development to our local government with particularly interest and emphasis with our human and natural resources in Moro.
What is your message?
My message to the people is first to appeal to the leaders to prioritise the emergence of a very credible candidate that has the unflinching desire of the development of the local government as paramount and burning desire in his heart. We should all be allowed to go to the field for the party’s primary and test our popularity in order to sell ourselves to the electorates who will decide what product to buy. Whoever that emerges carries the day and we are going to provide our support. That is our philosophy because it is all about the development of the local government and not personal aggrandisement of wealth or opportunities. I will also felicitate with the entire people of my ward, local government, the Emir of Ilorin and our state governor for being fortunate to be counted among those that are still alive to witness this year’s Eid celebration. I implore our leaders and all our publics to continue to maintain social distancing and go along to observe all the directive of the state and federal government on the Covid -19 protocols so as to stop the spread of the epidemic.
