Barring any change in decision, family members and relatives of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq may have been positioned for top appointments in the coming cabinet in the state, National Pilot has learnt.
To this end, it was gathered that the Governor is strongly considering one of his family members whose name could not be ascertained last night as the next Accountant General of the state.
Although the reason for such decision was still not clear last night, the choice to select the next Accountant General from within the family was coming on the heels of a meeting the Governor held with some members of the family including his elder brother Alimi and Senator Khairat over the formation of the next cabinet in the state.
Although details of the meeting was not made public, a top source in the know who spoke on the issue anonymously because of fear of victimisation told this medium that the parties could not come to terms with their choice of persons for certain key appointments in the next cabinet including that of the Accountant General.
According to the source, other top appointments which was also discussed by the siblings during the meeting was the issue of the replacement for the late Chief of Staff, Dr Aminu Logun who died last year at 71.
The replacement for the late industrialist was once a subject of a complex political intrigue when the purported appointment of a retried permanent secretary, Prince Abdulkadir Mahe resonated loudly across the state despite not been backed by any statement of endorsement by the government to that effect.
But the appointment of the Ilorin born prince for the choice seat is still very much the project of Alimi who has stood very strongly with Mahe ever since he was first rumoured to have been appointed as Logun’s successor.
Speaking further on the issue, the source said “The Governor and some members of his family including Alimi and Khairat met last week over the issue of the next cabinet.
“Among the key issues that were discussed is the formation of the next cabinet and those to be considered for the certain appointments which include who will succeed Logun. Dr Alimi is supporting Abdulkadir Mahe, his pioneer choice for the seat against some certain interest in Ilorin. But the governor has not conceded yet on that choice.
“He is still keeping his decision on the issue to his chest but there is the likelihood that he might accede to the choice in the coming days following continued pressures from his elder sibling. Around middle of March, next month, things would have taken shape.
“The Governor has decided to bring at least two members of his families into the next cabinet and one of the seats that such appointment is being seriously considered is the position of the Accountant-General of the state”.
Efforts to get reaction of the government or some of the siblings were not successful last night before this paper went to bed. But another top official who confirmed the development further told this medium that not less than 45% of the cabinet members that where earlier sacked will be making their return into the next cabinet when it is finally constituted.
The official said the governor is still considering wielding the big stick against some of the top government officials that are still occupying some key positions in government but for only taking his time to get those he feels are good enough to replace them and he is comfortable with.
Recall last year that some siblings of the Governor under the aegis of Yerimisa Youth of Idi-Igba, the family compound of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq in Adewole, Ilorin West Local Government area openly attacked him in a open letter that was dripping with venom over alleged abandonment and neglect since he got to office.
