Alleged Anti-Party: APC suspends Moshood Mustapha for 6 months

By Mumini AbdulKareem

The hide and seek scenario between the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Alanamu and Hon Moshood Mustapha was finally settled last night, following the announcement of his suspension from the party over alleged anti-party activities.
Mustapha’s suspension, it was gathered, was a direct reaction to his failure to honour the party’s summon for the second time within a month citing among other reasons his unavailability.
Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki penultimate week, had announced the appointment of Abubakar Danladi from Taraba State as his Special Adviser on Special Duties, a position that was last held by Mustapha.
Announcing the suspension at an emergency ward meeting held yesterday at the ward secretariat of the party in Isale-Aluko, the APC ward chairman, Alhaji AbdulRahman Jimoh flanked by the Secretary, Mallam Abdulwasiu Kehinde Tetenji and Vice Chairman, Hajia Iyabo Lawal, told National Pilot that MM as Mustapha is known in political circles was suspended for disregarding the invitations of the party on the allegations of anti-party activities levelled against the former commissioner.
Jimoh said he (Mustapha) failed to honour all invitations extended to him on the matter and refused to communicate with the party over his stand adding that the suspension was for six months.
The meeting to deliberate on the suspension of Mustapha was attended by APC stakeholders, elders, youths, women leaders, zonal chairmen among others.
The motion for the suspension of the politician, it was learnt, was moved by a former Majority Leader in the state House of Assembly, Hon. Kayode Omotose and was seconded by the Secretary.
“He is simply suspended over anti-party activities. Some three months ago, we heard that he was romancing the opposition excos and even gave them about N300,000 in two separate meetings precisely on the 20th and 27th February, 2018 which he denied.
“Besides that, his interaction with the opposition members is noticeable not only in Alanamu ward but throughout the state. This made us to invite him to come and defend the allegations but he did not honour our invitations and only sent us a letter that he was out of the country. Subsequently, he didn’t even respond to other letters written to him. We have no option than to call for this meeting to take this decision for him to go on suspension for six months.
“Now that a decision has been taken, we have to inform the local government and the state chapter of the party to do the needful from there,” he added.
But Mustapha or any of his aides could not be reached for comments on the issue, last night.
Several calls to Mustapha’s phone and some of his top aides in the state were not answered.
Also, text messages seeking their reactions over the matter were still being awaited before this paper went to bed.
But the issue assumed another twist when some members of the executives in the ward denounced the suspension adding that there was no such meeting where the decision was taken.
The Vice chairman, Hajia Iyabo Lawal told our reporter in a telephone chat that some of them were not in support of the decision to suspend Mustapha.
A statement signed by Lawal, the Youth leader, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu Saka Jatto, Public Relations Officer Mallam Hassan AbdulGafar and Welfare Secretary at Alanamu ward, Alhaji Suleiman Yahaya noted that decision to suspend Mustapha was never arrived at during the executive meeting of the party at the ward level.
According them, Mustapha is a respected leader in the ward and has contributed to the formation, growth and development of the party and he has not committed any infraction to warrant being suspended.
The statement added that they believe in the leadership of Moshood Mustapha adding that his purported suspension was predicated upon the incoming APC congresses with a threat to discipline those behind it.
However the Ilorin West Local Government Chairman of the party, Alhaji Sulyman Bala insisted that MM remains suspended and that is the position for now.
In a telephone chat last night, Bala queried the authenticity of the ward executives that denounced the suspension.
“Who are those that are saying MM is no longer on suspension. The Vice Chairman and Secretary of the party were not there and yet they are saying ward executives. To us MM remains suspended and that is our position”, he submitted.
Efforts to get the state Chairman of the party, Hon Ishola Balogun-Fulani was unsuccessful last night as calls to his mobile line rang out several times without any response.
