LG Poll: 500 PDP decampees in Asa pledge support to Saraki, Atunwa

No fewer than 500 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State, yesterday, defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defectors joined the APC during the campaign for Saturday’s council poll in Afon, Aboto-Oja, Alapa and Ballah, which attracted large turnout of party faithful.

The decampees led by Alhaji Olarewaju Pakoyi were presented to the gathering by the State Assistant Treasurer of APC, Alhaji Amuda Abdulsalam Yusuf (Morroco) on behalf of Hon Rasak Atunwa.

In his remark, Atunwa commended the defectors for taking the bold step and assured them of equal opportunity as the party is large enough to accommodate all.

He described Asa APC as one big family, charging the defectors to vote en mass and work for the success of the party in the council poll in order to bring the dividends of democracy to their door steps.

While admitting the defectors to the party, the APC Kwara Central Senatorial Chairman, Alhaji Jimoh Adesina urged them to be committed and come forward with progressive ideas.

Reacting, the leader of the group, Pakoyi described the event as ‘home coming’ having left the ruling APC some months ago, due to grievances.

He explained that the reunion was facilitated by Hon. Atunwa and some other stalwart of the party in the council area, promising on behalf of other defectors, to cast their vote for all APC candidates.

Speaking earlier, a party chieftain, Alhaji Saad Ajelanwa said a vote for the APC chairmanship candidate, Hajia Risikat Opakunle is in appreciation of the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki for even distribution of dividends of democracy in the state.

 


…another Chieftain decamps to APC in Moro

One of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) bigwigs, Alhaji Muktar Aliyu Tawakaltu, has decamped to the All Progressive​ Congress (APC).

Deputy Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Mathew Okedare received the decampee on behalf of the party executive.

Muktar who is the chairman of the Kwara State Hausa Community Political Forum, People’s Democratic Party officially announce his defection to the ruling party during the ward Congress held at the weekend at UMCA primary school, Jebba.

While speaking at the event, he noted that the decision to decamp was borne out of the desire of his people (the PDP Hausa Community) throughout the sixteen local government in the state, who were not satisfied with the way things are being done in the opposition party.

He further emphasized that his coming back to the party is like going back to the source because they were with the late political Godfather of Kwara politics, Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki, throughout his political journey in Kwara State.

He observed that the Hausa Community lost her political recognition since the demise of the late Olusola Saraki.

He said the Hausa Community respects the formidable structure of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state and thereafter laud the achievements of the distinguished President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, the Executive Governor of Kwara state, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, the speaker Kwara state House of Assembly, Dr. Ali Ahmad and his Deputy Hon. Mathew Okedare.

While reacting to this development, the Deputy Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, and Jagaban, Hon. Mathew Okedare welcomed them and urge them to be a good ambassadors of the party. He assured the people of Jebba ward of employment and some social amenities that would make living comfortable for them.

A former S.A to the Executive Governor of Kwara state, Hon. John Okedare also lauded those decamping for taking such a bold step. He further charged them to ensure victory in thier various polling units comes the November 18 council polls.

 


… Olupo, Oloro, others charge candidates on electoral promises

Ahead of the local government election scheduled for Saturday November 18, in Kwara State, politicians have been implored to be committed to their electoral promises and guide against violence.

The Olupo of Ajase-Ipo, Oba Sikiru Woleola II gave the charge during the campaign flag off by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Irepodun Local Government Area on Monday.

The Olupo who was represented by his chiefs appreciated Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for citing the International Vocational Training and Entrepreneurship College (IVTEC) in Ajase-Ipo even as he declared the support of his people for the state government.

In the same vein, the Oloro of Oro, Oba Rafiu Alabi Ajiboye Oyelaran I while receiving the councillorship hopefuls of Oro ward I, Hamidu Onikepe and ward II and the Chairmanship candidate of Irepodun, on Tuesday urged residents of the state to be patient with government at all levels blaming the economic meltdown for failure of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to accomplish all its electoral promises.

Oba Oyelaran, urged the aspiring council executives to emulate the virtues of Chief Raheem Adedoyin and Comrade Bisi Fakayode in terms of impacting on the masses.

In his remarks, the Baale of Ijomu-Oro, Chief AbdulGaniyu Olanrewaju Apeloye II said the community is appreciative of government’s efforts in making life more meaningful to the people while also praying for the success of the party in the council poll.

Elsewhere, the Elesie of Esie, Oba Yakubu Babalola, said the community has benefitted so much from the government to warrant their loyalty.

The campaign was yesterday rounded up in Omu-Aran, the headquarters of Irepodun.

Other communities touched by the campaign team are; Agbele, Igbonla, Ijan, Sanmora, Apata-Kajola, Eggi Oyo-Ipo, Agbonda and others.

Among the dignitaries on the campaign train are; Commissioner for Finance, Engr Demola Banu, Special Adviser on Labour Matters, Com. Bisi Fakayode, former commissioner for Information, Chief Raheem Adedoyin and the Special Adviser on Agriculture, Anu Ibiwoye.

Also present were; the Kwara South Senatorial Chairman of the party, Alh. Jimoh Balogun, former council chairmen, Lukman Owolewa, Tajudeen Bada, Basirat Babalola and members of the campaign committee led by Lanre Mustapha and Anthony Ogunshola.

 


… Zulu community promises to vote APC

The members of the Zulu Emirate in Kwara state yesterday stormed the Mandate Constituency Office of the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki to register their supports for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The meeting which was chaired by the Emirate state coordinator, Abdullah Sami Diri addressed salient issues that is impeding on the progress of the emirate.

While expressing the agitation of the emirate, Diri noted that they are ready to support the person of the Senate President in the coming Saturday poll by voting for the APC but the party must deliver on it promises.

He stressed further that Zulu as an Emirate is suffering of many social amenities adding that the promises of the party in 2015 has not been fully implemented.

According to him, the community doesn’t have good pipe born water and we’ve been pleading for this since the APC government came on board.

Also, the state Woman Leader, Deborah Haruna reiterated the support of the women in the forthcoming poll adding that she had on her own mobilised women to vote for the APC.

The Director Mandate Office for the Youth Employment, Barrister Adeyeye Taiwo Smith who received the member of the Emirate responded to their yearnings even has he promised that the Senate President will surely look into the issues they’ve presented.
