Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki is still very much a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as he is yet to defect to any other party.

Also, the entire executives, members and supporters of the party in the state are still with the Senate President in the ruling party.

The Publicity Secretary of the APC in Kwara State, Alhaji Sulyman Buhari made the clarification yesterday during a radio programme monitored in Ilorin.

According to him, the Senate President and members of the party are still members of the APC contrary to reports that they have defected to join a coalition.

Buhari distance Saraki from the presence of Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje at the Buba Galadinma led R-APC event and the statement credited to the party’s senatorial chairmen in the state calling on the Senate President to lead them out of the APC for failure of the party to fulfil promises made.

“At the moment, Saraki is still very much a member of the APC; he has not defected to CUPP or any other party. And if he decides to leave APC today, it is not likely that we will all go with him because people have individual differences. In politics, there is only permanent interest and not permanent enemy.

“What the APC senatorial chairmen did calling on Saraki to lead them out of the party and Baraje’s attendance of the R-APC was their own opinion and it is not binding on the Senate President”, he added.

Recall that the three senatorial chairmen, Alhaji Isiaka Oniwa (North), Alhaji Jimoh Adesina (Central) and Alhaji Jimoh Balogun (South) during a joint press conference held at Adangba last Wednesday said their position represented the wish and aspiration of their followers.

The status of the state chapter of the party within the APC has come under scrutiny following the formation of the R-APC by aggrieved members of the nPDP citing alleged marginalisation and persecution of its members.

Some other aggrieved members of the APC including former loyalists of President Muhammadu Buhari also teamed up with the new group to factionalise the ruling party.

On Monday, there was a new twist to the crisis rocking the party as it announced a coalition with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party and former 36 other political parties to form the Coalition of United Political Party (CUPP).

The CUPP after a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) it signed with the other parties agreed to pursue a common goal with the sole objective of unseating Buhari during next year presidential election.

However, following the development, the APC issued a scattering statement through its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi insisting that there is no faction in the party.

He added that the party remain united and members of the R-APC which include the former leader of the nPDP, Alhaji Baraje are not known to the party.
