By Ahmed Ajikobi
A suspected ritualist was on Saturday night caught with female pants, bras, pads, women slippers and other items in a cement sack along Idi Agbon Owode area in Offa, Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The report of the incident and pictures of the suspect with the stolen pants and bra went viral yesterday on the internet and social media platform. In some of the pictures circulated online, a female pant and bra were hanged around the suspect’s neck.
The unidentified suspect was reportedly nabbed around 7pm as his movement was said to have led to suspicion by residents of the area, who later asked to know the content of the sack he was carrying.
The suspect who appeared a old man was reportedly beaten and was earlier set ablaze by angry mob. He was said to have declined uttering a word despite the beating and threats he was issued by the crowd.
The suspect was said to have been taken to Owode Police Station in Offa.
Meanwhile, the incident has been generating reactions from residents of the state and beyond on various platforms online.
While many called for investigation and prosecution of the suspect, a man who simply identified himself as Brandox on an interactive platform online said the suspect may be a mentally unstable man even as he called for caution.
However, when contacted, last night, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Kwara State Command, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi said he is not aware. He however added that he will confirm the incident and get back to our reporter.
Few minutes later, the PPRO called our reporter back saying he has contacted the division where the suspect was said to have been taken to but there is no such case reported there.
