No fewer than 15,000 Christians from within the country and beyond will hold special prayer for the release of Dapchi schoolgirl, Leah Sharibu and other Chibok girls who are being held captive by the Boko Haram insurgents.
The special prayer will hold during a week-long programme organised by the Cherubim and Seraphim Church Movement, tagged ‘The ascension of Mount Horeb’
The 49th edition of the annual event is scheduled for Sunday, 29th of April to Saturday 5th May, 2018 at the International Headquarters of the church, Orile Igbon, Oyo State.
Other areas of focus for the special prayer are the forthcoming general elections, peace of the nation and early rain for bumper harvest.
Addressing newsmen at Orile Igbon on Tuesday, the Spiritual Father and Chairman of Cherubim and Seraphim Church Movement Worldwide, Most Reverend Samuel Adefila Abidoye, expressed optimism that there would be positive outcome from the special prayers.
He, however, expressed concern over the level of insecurity in the country, calling on the Federal Government to be “more alive to its responsibility.”
“Insecurity in our nation is still going on unabated and with few months to the general elections, the Federal Government should be more alive to its responsibilities by making sure that all security agencies are not only adequately armed but also appropriately trained for the important task ahead,” he emphasised.
Abidoye, however, called on Christians to see governance as “everybody’s business,” by participating actively in politics and making a difference, just as he appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that eligible votes count.
The clergyman also advised youths to take central stage in the political affairs of the country.
He stated that the time is ripe for Nigerian youths to seek elective positions so as to change the old order by bringing in fresh ideas, towards developing the country, urging for support of elders towards this cause.
“It is an opportunity for them (youths) to wake up and be fully prepared to take over the mantle of leadership from the elders but they should know that to whom much is given, much is also expected.
“Suffice to say that they should not disappoint the nation especially their constituents when they eventually get to power,” he added.
