20-yr-old arrested for robbery in Ilorin

 

20- year- old Usman Abdulsalam has been arrested for robbing one Aderemi Abisola of Small London Village, Eleko, Ilorin, Kwara State, of  his valuables, recently.

It was gathered that the suspect carted away expensive mobile  phones and jewelries valued at N168,000.

According to police source, Aderemi reported the case at the SIB Department of the State Police Headquarters stating that the incident happened at around 2am while she was sleeping.

The source added that one the phones was tracked and consequently  led to Abdulsalam’s arrest.

“During investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime, saying that he is a member of a gang terrorising the area. He will be charge to court as soon as investigation into the matter is concluded.”

In a related development, shops at Sabojo, Odo-Okun area of Ilorin, Kwara State, were on Friday burgled at midnight by yet-to-be identified burglars.

Goods worth thousands of naira were said to have been carted away during the raid by the midnight robbers.

Items stolen from the shops include 100 crates of soft drinks, 50 bags of 5kg and 50 bags of 10kg Semovita, among others.

It was gathered that owners of the two shops had just restocked a day before the incident.

A resident,  who spoke to this medium over the development, decried the alarming rate of burglary in the area.

“The rate at which shops are being burgled is alarming. Just few days ago, a canteen was burgled; all the food stuff and soup were carted away.

“And we woke up today (Friday) again to see that two shops have been burgled and food stuff and drinks were stolen.”

She said the case has been reported to the police.

Similarly, five people have been arrested for car snatching and  robbing two persons, Tayo Oyegoke and Micheal Babafemi of valuables.

The items stolen include plasma TV, phones, ipad and laptops among others.

According to police source, the robbery case was reported  at the Tanke Divisional Police Station.

“The stolen phones were tracked, which led to the arrest of the five suspects by the police. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime.

“They initially took the car away but abandoned it when they realised that the car had tracking device. Efforts are on to arrest other members of the gang,” the police source further said.

Efforts to contact the state Police Spokesperson, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi on the matter proved abortive as  calls to his mobile phone were not picked and text messages not responded to at the time of filing this report.
