Recall: Oke-Ero youths disown presidential aide

Seven youth groups from Oke-Ero local government under the Coalition of Oke-Ero Youths Forum on Wednesday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, dissociated themselves from alleged report to recall the Senate President and Chairman of National Assembly, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki.

Recall that the party in the state had reacted to a statement credited to one Charles Olufemi Afolayan, an aide to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Youths and Student Affairs under the auspices of the Kwara Youth Stakeholders Forum (KYSF) launching media attack against the Senate President.

But the Oke-Ero youths during a press conference further described the report published by an online news medium, Sahara Reporters as a means of misdirecting the public from obvious facts adding that the report does not represent the opinion of the youths of the local government.

The Coordinator Liberation Youth Movement, Comrade Aina Julius Oluwashola; President, Kwara South Joint Political Youth Association, Comrade Bankole Babatunde and Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Oke-Ero chapter, Comrade Awoleye Gabriel Sunday made the forum’s position known.

The other youth associations which cut across all youth groups in Oke-Ero included Oke-Ero Youth Joint Political Association, Harmony Youth Movement, Grassroots Youths of Oke-Ero and Youth Alliance were represented at the press conference.

The forum made its position known at a press conference in Ilorin.

While reading the forum address, Comrade Oluwashola described Saraki is a leader who is well recognized in the local government most especially among the youths due to the concern he has shown towards them.

The coalition condemned Saraki’s critics and added that the council has benefitted from the kind gesture of Senate President despite not being from Kwara Central Senatorial district.

The forum listed the Senate President’s kind gesture in the local government to in scholarship award for first class student from Oke-Ero, appointment of legislative aides to the Senate President from the council and being a beneficiary of grading of Obas.

The forum said statement credited to Afolayan under one unregistered association called Kwara South Youth stakeholders was baseless and untruth.

It said the KYSF only exists on paper and not known in Oke-Ero even as it said the author of the statement has never participated in politics at any level in the state.

It urged the public to disregard the statement as the author was only trying to gain cheap popularity and restated that the entire Oke-Ero youth were solidly behind the Senate President because of leadership style and disposition to youth development

In his reaction, the convener of the coalition, Engr. Dare Bankole emphasised that Afolayan did not speak on behalf of the council said Oke-Ero youth is comfortable with the leadership style and recognise Saraki as their leader “anytime. We also congratulate him on his victory at the CCT and are confident of his triumph at the appeal”.
