Many trapped as 21-storey building collapses in Lagos

...as corpses are recovered from scene of incident

A 21-storey building has collapsed in Lagos State.
The building, which is under construction, is located at off Alexander way, Gerrard Road in Ikoyi Lagos State.
The unspecified number of construction workers are trapped in the rubble.
As of the time of filing this report, no one has been rescued.
This is as rescue effort is yet to commence, as only a team of policemen and an ambulance were seen at the location almost two hours after the incident.
No earth moving equipment has arrived the scene.
Meanwhile, no fewer than three corpses have been recovered from the rubbles of a 21-storey building that collapsed on Monday afternoon in Lagos State.
It has earlier been reported that the building, which was under construction and located off Alexander way, Gerrard Road in Ikoyi, went down and trapped an unspecified number of construction workers.
Ibrahim Farinloye, Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), while speaking with newsmen at the scene, confirmed that three lifeless bodies have been recovered and moved to a morgue owned by the state government.
“The deceased bodies were pulled out from under the rubble,” he said.
It was also gathered that three persons have been rescued and are currently being treated by the medical team of the Lagos State General Hospital.
