One feared dead as cultists strike again in Ilorin

For the fear of being hit by stray bullet residents and passers-by at Adualere in Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State scampered for safety on Tuesday as three suspected cultists gruesomely murdered a young man believed to be a former member of a confraternity group.
It was gathered that the victim, Ibrahim Alimi was a member of Eiye confraternity group but lately denounced his membership before he was shot dead by his colleagues on the fateful day.
According to an eye witness account, the deceased was in the company of his friends at his Isale-Koto resident around 12pm where he rendered many rib-cracking jokes but was later murdered an hour later at Adualere area by the yet to be identified cultists.
Alimi was said to have left home to pay his friend a visit before being accosted on the way by the three-man gang who launched attack on him while he tried to flee the area.
They were said to have shot at Alimi and subsequently matcheted him until he breathe his last. After carrying out the nefarious acts, the suspects reportedly vacated the scene.
Alimi was said to have lost so much blood before passers-by and relatives could rescue him. His body has since been evacuated from the area though it cannot be confirmed whether this was done by security operatives or family of the deceased.
When our reporter visited the scene of the crime, police patrol vans were noticed parading the area to forestall reprisal attack.
When contacted on the phone, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, said that he is yet to be informed about the incident.
“I’m yet to be informed on the development,” Okasanmi stated.
Meanwhile, the latest incident brings to six the number of suspected cultists that have been murdered in the latest reprisal attacks in the last three weeks in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The first casualty of the latest wave of attacks was one Dauda who hails from Ijara-Isin, Isin Local Government Area of the state, who was brutally murdered at Edun/Opo Malu junction in Ilorin.
The following day, another yet to be identified cultist had his life terminated at Elekoyangan area. Also murdered on July 15 is one Owolabi Openpe, a staff at National museum in Osun State better known as Owo and one Omo Alhaja who was also killed beside Honeymoon Hotels, Coca-Cola Road. Also murdered inside the Kwara State Stadium, Ilorin, by suspected cultists is one 30-year-old, Adesoji Jatto. The victim who hails from Offa was murdered around 7pm after ABS FC was held to 1-1 draw by Rivers United.
It would be recalled that the Kwara State Police Command has arrested and paraded three suspects in connection with the aforesaid killings in Ilorin.
