Police nabs Fulani herdsmen for farm invasion, destruction

Two Fulani herdmen, Isiaka Musa and Abdullahi Amodu are cooling their feet in police net following their arrest over invasion and destruction of farmland belonging to a farmer simply identified as Isiaka Ganiyu in Alapa, Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State penultimate Tuesday.  
Pilot Crime learnt that the suspects who were said to be herdsmen trespassed into Ganiyu’s farm and their cows destroyed yams, maize, cassava and vegetable.
According to police source, the victim reported the case to the area command through petition that the suspects destroyed his farm produce.
“Following the complaint, our officers, through intelligence and surveillance, arrested the suspects while others are at large.
“The victim reported that he informed the leader of the cattle rearers in the area of the incident and the suspects were invited for dialogue but they (suspects) threatened to take the cows to graze on the farm again. According to the complainant the produce destroyed at his farm is valued at N320,000.
“The victim said the suspects later agreed during the peace meeting to pay 70,000 naira last Tuesday and they signed an undertaking and also apologised to the victim but reneged on their promise.”
It was learnt that the suspects have confessed to the crime but refused to reveal identities of their accomplice in the crime.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi  Okasanmi denied knowledge of the incident.
