Residents of Oniwasi Agbaye Street, Islamic Village in Ilorin, Kwara State were thrown into shock on Thursday when a middle aged man simply known as Mallam. Abubakar beat his wife popularly called Iya Nafisat to a coma during a fight.
The incident which was said to have occurred at about 9:30pm, attracted neighbours of the couple and passers-by.
Pilot Crime learnt that efforts by neighbours to save the situation was futile until the woman fainted.
It was further learnt that the fight occurred as a result of alleged infidelity by the husband.
Narrating the incident to this medium, a resident of the area, who craved anonymity, said, “When Iya Nafisat returned home from work at night, she discovered that someone had broken into her room and a television set missing.
“She made enquiries from her children and was informed that the act was perpetrated by her husband, whom she suspected must have taken the television set to his concubine’s house.
“Infuriated by his act, the wife confronted the husband, which led to a fight. We were attracted to the scene by the screams heard but all efforts to stop the fight proved abortive.
“The man beat his wife to a pulp and only left her when she became motionless. We were alarmed and tried to revive the woman to no avail and so decided to rush her down to a nearby hospital where she was later resuscitated”, the source added.
Efforts to speak to the victim did not yield result as our reporter met her absence on two occasions when visits were made to the couple’s house.
