NPFL: ABS extends unbeaten run to 3 matches

Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS Ilorin FC) extended their unbeaten run in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) to three games following their impressive 2-0 victory against Remo Stars at the Kwara State Stadium, Ilorin, on Sunday.

Oyedeji Samuel scored from penalty spot on the stroke of half time before ABS inform striker, Alalade Wasiu doubled the lead at the added minutes in the second stanza to give the Saraki Boys the most important three points.

ABS ended their five games winless streak against Rangers and thereafter played 2-2 draw in their last away game in Katsina.

The Coach Henry Makinwa boys dominated the game but wasted so many scoring opportunities in both half of the games.

With this result, ABS has moved out relegation danger, as they now occupied 16 position on the log.

Meanwhile, Plateau United maintained their strong hold at the top of the NPFL table following their impressive 1-1 away draw against Kano Pillars at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, on Sunday.

Ibeh Johnson gave Plateau United a surprise 1-0 lead when he scored in the 17th minute.

But Pillars were back on level terms in the 52nd minute through Hamza Abba Tiya as both teams shared the spoils.

The draw means Plateau remain in the top spot on 59 points, three above MFM who are second. Pillars are seventh on 48 points.

At the Agege Stadium, MFM failed to take advantage of Plateau’s draw against Kano Pillars as they were held to a 0-0 draw against Enyimba.

A win for MFM would have taken them to 58 points, and just one point off Plateau United.

Despite the draw, MFM hold on to second position on 56 points, while Enyimba are fourth on 51 points.

In Ijebu Ode, Akwa United’s title hopes suffered a big setback as they were pipped 1-0 by Sunshine Stars.

The only goal of the game was scored by Ajibola Otegbeye from the penalty spot in the 16th minute.

Akwa are still third in the league table on 51 points.

El-Kanemi Warriors also suffered a setback in their quest for a continental ticket following their 1-0 away loss to Niger Tornadoes. Tornadoes’ goal was scored by Bolaji Adeyemo in the 77th minute.

In Ibadan, Shooting Stars gave their fight against relegation a big boost following their 2-1 comeback win against Gombe United.

Musa Usman gave Gombe the lead on 55 minutes before Seun Akinyemi equalised from the penalty spot on 72 minutes.

And in the 79th minute, Najeem Olukokun scored the winner which took 3SC to 43 points and 14th on the log.
