Agriculture deserves better funding – AAEUN

A Labour Movement, the Agriculture and Allied Employees Union of Nigeria (AAEUN) has called on the Federal Government to increase the budgetary allocation to the agricultural sector as a demonstration of its commitment to make the agric mainstay of the economy.

The Chairman of the Union, Comrade David Kayode Ehindero made the call during a telephone chat with Pilot Business shortly after the union meeting at Gwagwalada Abuja at the weekend.

He said, “We commend efforts of the Federal Government in repositioning the agricultural sector and urge government to as a matter of urgency approve and implement the payment of hazard allowances to agriculture and allied workers in Nigeria.

He stressed the need for synergy between the union and the Ministries of Agriculture, Water Resources and Environment as a way of enhancing their contribution to agricultural development in Nigeria.

According to him, the meeting, which had representations from across the federation requested that the union should be given membership status by Nigeria Agricultural Council and Nigerian Water Resources Council for proper representation of workers’ interest and aspiration.

He equally urged the Federal Government to deploy necessary measures in tackling the menace of herdsmen and farmers clash in the country.

The members used the opportunity of the meeting to reiterate their support for the National leadership of the union under the Presidency of Comrade Simon Achiever and called on all members to make the union the fulcrum of the agricultural sector.
