Kogi Assembly grants Bello’s request to appoint four more Special Advisers

From Bayo Oyewale, Lokoja

Kogi State House of Assembly has approved Governor Yahaya Bello’s request to appoint four additional Special Advisers in the interest of fairness, equity and justice.

This followed the adoption of the letter of request by the Chief Whip, Honourable Victor Adewale Omofaye and seconded by Honourable Lawi Mohommed.

In the letter of request, Governor Bello had urged the House to approve the appointment of four more special advisers with immediate effect.

The letter reads in part: “this will increase the pool fossilised manpower available to my office. It will increase the number of my special advisers from 21-25.

I make this request in the interest of fairness and proportional representation and to accommodate the special needs of larger local government areas like Lokoja, Ankpa, Okene and Dekina LGAs, whose interest are currently underserved by the rule of one of the Special Advisers per LGA”

In the same vein, the House also approved the request for the 50 percent for term of loan of N1,918,783,783.78. This is to enable the state government finance counterpart fund in respect of UBE in Kogi.

However, the Speaker solicited the support of members of the legislative House in the interest of the state, saying he operates open door policy that carries all members along in the interest of fairness and justice.

This plea came on the heels of the first official sitting as the speaker after the resignation of the former speaker, Right Honourable Umar Ahmed Immam two weeks ago.
