JAMB tertiary institutions football tourney kicks off, today
The first edition of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) sponsored football competition among tertiary institutions begins today, with eight matches on the card.
The opening ceremony will come up by 2.00pm at the main Pitch of the University of Ilorin.
16 finalists from the six geo-political zones, which cuts across the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education have already arrived Ilorin for the competition.
In Group A, University of Agriculture, Makurdi will take on Kaduna Polytechnic by 10.00am, while Shehu Shagari College of Education will trade tackles with Kwara State Polytechnic by 12noon, all at the Main Pitch of the Kwara Football Academy.
Group B will play at the Main Pitch of the University of Ilorin, with Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa taking on College of Education, Oro by 4.00pm, while Delta State University and College of Education, Ankpa by 10.00am.
Two Kwara qualifiers, Federal Polytechnic, Offa and University of Ilorin will tango in the first match in Group C at Pitch 2, Kwara Football Academy, with Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu playing College of Education, Minna by 12noon.
The matches Group D will also be played by 10.00am and 12noon today. Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic will take the center stage against University of Nigeria, Nsuka, and Federal College of Education will play Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi.
Among those expected to grace the opening ceremony today are the state Heads of tertiary institutions, NUC officials, JAMB officials and other stakeholders in sports and education industry.
The Chairman of the Main Organising Committee (MOC), Pharmacist Kale Ayo said that everything has been put in place to ensure hitch-free competition.
The closing ceremony comes up on Saturday, August 26th, at the University of Ilorin.
Meanwhile, no fewer than 75 to 80 percent of the university delegates arrived Ilorin last night for the competition, Pilot Sports can exclusively report.
The Chairman, Technical Committee of the competition, Coach Tunde Kazeem informed Pilot Sports in a telephone interview last night.
