Kwara LGs Election: APC may go for consensus candidates
Party elders and stalwarts in the Kwara state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) may have settled for consensus candidates in the forthcoming local government election, it was learnt last night.
Most of the local governments which had zoned the seat had initially shortlisted three names for the screening that was conducted by the council across the state recently.
It was gathered that councils reportedly opted for consensus candidates among the shortlisted aspirants.
Oyun local government was among the first council that presented a consensus candidate for the poll.
But the issue was said to have generated disquiet among some powerful stakeholders last night in some local governments.
In Kaiama, Isin, Ilorin West, Ekiti and Moro among others, a source told Pilot Politics that the dust from the furore was yet to fully settle.
In Ekiti where Comrade Yinka Dallas, Hon. Shayo Amos and Chief Reuben Dada have emerged the leading candidates, allegation of imposition have reportedly caused disquiet among leading stakeholders in the party.
The same issue dominated the narrative in Kaiama last week and Isin, among other councils in the state.
It was also gathered that some of the stakeholders may have decided to mount pressure on some of the aspirants they consider as threat to their assistants have set machinery in place towards this regard.
A source told this medium last night that “moves have began in Ekiti to get Dallas to step down for other aspirants.
