NYG: Kwara claims 4 gold medals as game progresses

The Host State, Kwara has increased her chances of top finish at the on-going 3rd National Youth Games (NYG) in Ilorin, wining four gold and three bronze medals.
The national Karate bronze medallist, Bashir Abdulazeez had won Kwara her first gold medal on Tuesday in the Karate event before they got another two gold and three bronze in table tennis on Wednesday.
Abdulazeez defeated Delta representative, Omotayo Agbolade by Sensu after both tied 5-5 in the -55kg male event.
Abdulazeez had won gold medal at the 2nd edition of the Games in Ilorin in 2016.
The athlete was part of the team that made the country proud at the UFAK Zone 3 Karate Championship in Cotonou, Benin Republic recently.
Meanwhile, Kwara male and female players have qualified for the final of squash event at the on-going NYG games.
The state of Harmony is sure of more medals in squash event as her players will face each other in the male and female final.
Another event, Kwara is hopeful of medal is Badminton which will start today, (Thursday) at the University of Ilorin centre.
In cycling event, Kwara’s representative finished 10th as Rivers State swept all medals available in the 10 km individual male and female race held yesterday at Airport Road, Ilorin.
Meanwhile, Delta State is leading the medals table with 21 medals at the on-going 3rd NYG, as at the time of filing this report.
The State is followed by Ondo state which has 15 medals and Akwa Ibom maintained third position with 10 medals.
