Malaria: 64,000 Offa residents get nets cards

No fewer than 64,000 residents of Offa in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State have been given net cards in preparation for the distribution of Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) with the distribution exercise scheduled for next Friday in the area.

This was disclosed by the Social Mobilisation Officer for Offa Local Government, Catholic Relief Services (CRS), and other collaborating agencies, Mrs. Jemilat Yusuf when the team paid a courtesy call on the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamasi Esuwoye II at his palace recently.

The Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and other collaborating agencies are saddled with the responsibility of household mobilisation campaign for onward distribution of the mosquito nets.

She added that the exercise had reached 98 per cent completion, calling for the support and cooperation of all residents towards the success of the programme.

Also speaking, the Malaria Focal Person for Offa Local Government, Mrs. Folashade Shittu gave kudos to the local government household mobilisers for reaching out to every household in all the nooks and crannies of the area.

Responding, Oba Gbadamosi called on people of Offa and its environs to cooperate with the personnel handling the distribution of the mosquito nets and to come out en masse for collection.

He added that the distribution of treated mosquito nets would go a long way in eradicating malaria and other related diseases in the society.

The Olofa therefore commended the donor agencies, which include Global Fund, CRS, as well as federal and state ministries of Health for collectively carrying out the exercise.

In the same vein, the Chief Imam of Isare-Opin, in Ekiti Local Government Area of the state, Alhaji Usman Shittu, expressed his joy over the exercise and described the gesture as a step in the right direction.

The cleric appreciated the commitment of personnel in his domain, pointing out that all households in his community had been captured for distribution.

Earlier in his address, the state monitor for Ekiti Local Government, David Victor who led the team of the household mobilisers and various independent monitors on the visit, appreciated the Chief Imam and members of the community for showing interest in the project and assured that all households would be considered for the distribution exercise.
