Kwara expects 400,000 bags of fertilisers from FG

The Kwara State Government has said it is expecting not less than 400, 000 bags from the Federal Government.

The state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources Bamidele Adegoke, who made the disclosure while speaking with National Pilot, yesterday, explained that all necessary steps have been taken to ensure the release of the fertilisers.

While reiterating the state government’s commitment towards ensuring farmers in the state have enough material for bumper harvest in the season, Adegoke emphasised that the off taker driven agriculture initiative has been of help to farmers.

“The Kwara State Government as a responsible government will always key into any FG’s intervention and we have applied for 20,000 metric tons which is about 400,000 bags and it has not been received ditto other states.

“Under the off taker driven agriculture, we have been able to help farmers, we are now waiting on the FG,” he said.

Recall that the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative (PFI) recently said it will deliver 4 million bags of 50kg Nitrogen, Phosphorous and Potassium (NPK) fertiliser to farmers, at an affordable rate before the end of the year.

The disclosure was recently made by the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the President, Garba Shehu.

According to him, 11 fertiliser blending plants in the country will be increased to 18 by the end of the year; which will in turn, provide direct employment to no fewer than 50,000 Nigerians.
