Budget: KWSG tasks MDAs on planning

In preparation for the 2018 budget, the Kwara State Government has tasked all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to be conversant with government’s policy as it relates to their establishments.
The state Commissioner for Planning and Economic Development, Alhaji Wasiu Odewale made the disclosure during a workshop on Effective and Efficient Budget Management for MDAs in Ilorin, recently.
He said, “We are aware that budget, when carefully prepared and meticulously implemented, has potential to facilitate social transformation and economic advancement of the state and country at large.
“It is in the light of having a good budget preparation by all the tertiary institutions in 2018 fiscal year that the workshop is fashioned out to address and resolve some identified grey areas arising from the budget preparation observed during the 2017 revised exercise.
” We are looking at a budget that every citizen in Kwara State will understand what we are doing from the beginning to the end. We want them to assist government because private institutions are surviving on their own, ” he added.
He urged planning officers in the MDAs who would mainly be dealing with figures to be conversant with the policy thrusts of the government as it relates to their respective offices.
“Liaise with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development on all matters with the preparation and implementation of short, medium and long term plans and development agenda of the government.
” Assist your MDAs in formulation of its sectoral programmes, policies and preparation and implementation of various projects. The articulation and preparation of the annual estimates of revenue and expenditures of their establishments,” he further tasked them.
The commissioner urged the officers to be painstaking in the collation and analysis of recurrent and capital estimates on revenue and expenditure.
