Herdsmen invasion, encroachment major challenge at Ilorin Airport – Manager

The Manager of Ilorin International Airport, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulazeez, has identified invasion of runway by cattle and encroachment of the airport by people as the major challlenge faced by the management.
He stated this during a chat with Pilot Aviation on Friday.
The Manager said, “We are appealing to the Kwara State Government to prevail on the public to stop encroaching on the airport’s land.
“Vast land belonging to the airport had been sold to people and others have continued to encroach at will without  fear.
“The present secretariat of Ilorin West Local Government is built on the airport’s land and we have reported the matter to appropriate quarters,” he further stated.
He said that the encroachment could be disastrous in the event of an air crash, apealing to land excavators to desist from collecting sand on the airport land.
He revealed that the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN)  headquarters is aware of the herdsmen invasion of the runway  and necessary action will be taken at the appropriate time.
The Manager, however, appealed to all stakeholders in Kwara State to cooperate with the management in order to ensure safety of the airport and its environs.
