Police is your friend (I)

The Nigeria Police Force, you will agree with me is a creation of the Nigeria constitution and the Police Act. The organisation, is saddled with the responsibility of protecting the lives and property of the citizenry among others. It was created to protect particularly the law abiding members of the public. The police have the responsibility to perform other lawful duties as may be assigned to it by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
It is note worthy that the police establishment has been discharging these duties diligently and efficiently and thus carved a niche for itself both nationally and internationally for its daring investigations and general operational abilities internationally. Recall that the police force has received world commendation and respect as a result of her laudable roles during the 1960 – 65 Congo Brazzaville and (Zaire) crises and the role played during the Nigeria independence and civil war. It has also served as a worthy ambassador of the nation in Yugoslavia, Cambodia and recently in Sudan. The Nigeria Police has proved to be reliable ally in the managing of international crises.
Back home in Nigeria, the nation’s Police continue to discharge its constitutional responsibilities during elections, which also ushered in the current democratic government in Nigeria. Again, the police performed in quenching all sorts of violent demonstrations in many parts of the country that can be described as excellent.
In Kwara State for example, the present leadership of the Nigeria Police Force under the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Lawan Ado has continue in the tradition of excellence within few months of his assumption of office. The command witnessed commendable achievements in all facet of crime fighting operations, as almost a total number of fifty (50) stolen vehicles, including motorcycles and cars stolen in Ilorin metropolis and other parts of the state were recovered. That also include many tricycles valued at thousands of naira. In most of the recoveries, those apprehended were miscreants.
In its efforts to clean up the state of the activities of men of the underworld, cultists and other miscreants, Mr. Lawan Ado and his team recovered huge numbers of arms and ammunition which led to the arrest of notorious armed robbers and cultists who have been terrorizing Kwara and its environs. The Police boss has made the state a “No Go Area” for armed robbers and other bandits and through aggressive patrol in various locations in the state, the command has recorded resounding success in crime reduction, particularly house breaking and theft. The command also made a lot of arrest. It is worth mentioning that suspects arrested have made useful statements to police detectives and now being arraigned in the courts to face the full wrath of the law.
On assumption of office, Ado made it clear that he was posted to the state to serve the generality of the people who are promoting community policing in the state. From all indications, he is an unassuming and workaholic police boss. Some of his men referred to him as a “fine police chief”.
