School principal decry erosion havoc, inadequate teachers

The Principal of Barakat Community Secondary School, Ilorin, Hajia Risikat Babata Rufai bemoaned the havoc caused by erosion and inadequate teachers for core subjects in the school.

Barakat, which is located in Alfa Yahaya area of the state capital is one of the schools founded in October 1980 by the Ilorin Emirates Descendant Progressives Union (IEDPU).

The principal made this known recently during award ceremony and Founder’s Day organised by the old students of the school.

According to Rufai, the school lacks teachers in major subjects, a situation that is affecting the general performance of the students in exams.

She said, “The major challenge facing the school include lack of English Language, Literature-in-English and Chemistry teachers for the senior session while the junior session lacks teachers in Intro Tech, Security Education, Civil Education and Mathematics.”

She added that the academic life of the school is impeded upon as a result of erosion during raining season.

She however solicited for the support of the old students in completing the school mosque and other projects.

According to her, the foundation of the uncompleted mosque was laid many years ago through self efforts.
